I went to Rocky Mountain National Park on Sunday and fell in love. When something gets the coveted National Park title, it's usually pretty spectacular. This land was amazing. Thank you, Theodore Roosevelt, for your vision of protecting our beautiful land! (Aud- Please correct my history here, if needed)

I am so deeply honored to be mentioned in your blog (again!). And you are on the right path. Gifford Pinchot and Teddy Roosevelt with a bunch of others worked to create the Forest Service and Bureau of Forestry (later Dept of Interior). They wanted preservation with mutli-use (TR was a huge hunter and generally liked to conquer things like mountains, moose and Latin America).
A whole bunch of other folk (Mather....Hand?....some others) worked to create a place for *preservation* (not mutli-use)....and lobbied for a Dept of Interior and Park Service which Woodrow Wilson signed into law.
And as we all know, Presidents cannot really do anything but sign things and give speeches, so these are actually both (the USFS and NPS) a result of Acts of Congress that got the approval and signature of various presidents.
Miss you <3. And I will be in the Challis NF this weekend (Idaho has NO National Parks! Yet we have the largest roadless wilderness in the lower 48)

Believe it or not, all that info came from my Outdoor Rec degree I got at WKU (yes, we actually studied policy and history in between canoeing and bugs). I love this perfect blend I have created between my Rec and MLS degrees.....
